Video quality on TV from the FX7

Hi, I was noticing that standard dvd video played on an old CRT TV looks fine, but with HDTV's it looks bad at different levels depending on each one. I've tried to use as less gain as possible, use enough light, and convert as best as possible with a constant bit rate but the video wont loose those...

Re: FX7 tape compartment trouble

Hi, I'm glad for your explanation on servicing, I had a VHS camcorder from the early 90's that was still running smooth in 2006 and it *never* went through any type of maintenance, and came a point where it wasn't touched for months at a time...but given that the mechanics and sizes are different it...

Re: FX7 tape compartment trouble

And for you to go off on Sony after you just said you have another Sony that performs just fine makes no sense to me. Hi, I'm not sure why it doesn't make sense, but let me clarify, the smaller (very inexpensive compared to the FX7) unit has been dropped accidentally numerous amounts of times, neve...

Re: FX7 tape compartment trouble

Yes. It's broken. Get it to an authorized service center asap. You can't diagnose it yourself and you can't fix it. It's possible the contacts that tell the little motor that retracts the tape that the inner door is closed are dirty or have failed. Or something could be blocking the inner carriage....

FX7 tape compartment trouble

Hello, I'm having trouble with the FX7's tape compartment. When I insert a tape the metal compartment can be closed and the tape stays inside, but that metal tape holder wont slide down the tape into the camera anymore and I am unable to close the camera completely to film. The outer part where the ...

aspect ratio

Hi, I'm having trouble with aspect ratios in HD video. The problem is that, the original footage is 1920X1080 and or 1440X1080 The end result of this footage will be burned to a standard DVD to which only format can be 720X480 mpeg2 from my understanding. When I render the 1920X1080 files, the only ...

Re: HXR-MC2000U vs. HDR-FX7

What shutter speed did you use to film the soccer game? I mostly shoot in modified auto mode, so my shutter was locked on 60, except for the few times when the cam wanted me to use a higher level on ND and I didn't, so it switched to 125 or even 250. I liked a few of those stroby shots so I include...

Re: HXR-MC2000U vs. HDR-FX7

When you say, choose high definition, or motion, but I can't have both at the same time, what do you mean? Meaning that it's hard to have both at the same time. With too much motion you lose some definition. With a still camera, you retain the crisp high def. That's true. The probablilty of this, i...

Re: HXR-MC2000U vs. HDR-FX7

Certainly I think most amateurs overdo camera motion, waving the thing around wildly like a fire hose and making everyone seasick. In most cases we should indeed let the action unfold in front of a mostly stationary camera. But there are times when the camera can and should move. I don't think ther...

Re: HXR-MC2000U vs. HDR-FX7

[...] but most importantly, no blur during horizontal recordings. I was disappointed with pans and any motion in general. I never figured out whether it was an issue of shutter speed, or like Steve said once I seem to remember, maybe more probably an issue of MPEG2 codec that needs to reduce effect...
