Re: Effective resolution of camcorder's sensor - does it mat
The task of upscaling sensor resolution is much easier than downsampling. That means that with the CX210, the image is oversampled to fit into the 1080 samples per line, but the resultant image presented to the AVCHD coder and the resultant stream shows little deterioration from the quality of the s...

Re: About additional microphone for handycam
I don't have much specific mic. experience. I have used Sennheiser ME6 series remote from that camera via XLR cables and a Rode Videomic on the hot shoe of a FX1. Each mic. has it's own uses. The Shure that you mention seems fairly compact for a quality device. If you want more control over your sou...

Re: About additional microphone for handycam
Depending on the intended use of your camera, the use of an external microphone may well improve the recorded sound quality as follows: 1) If your shooting location is where the sound is all ambient in nature, e.g. a street scene or in open countryside, you may want the recorded sound to recreate th...

Re: Camera Options?
The Sony HDR-CX730 and its derivatives have both night vision capability and a large zoom range. Beware though, the zoom is both optical, (the first 10 times) and digital expansion to 120 times. So with careful use, at 20 times, with the digital interpolation doubling the range, it would still be ac...

Re: HDR-HC9 problem capturing HDV footage to PC
Have you tried Sony Movie Studio Platinum, (currently version 12). The 28 day free trial is fully functional and will certainly recognise Sony HDV camcorders. I find the application the most usable of all the consumer versions of full-price editors on the market and it behaves in the same way as the...

Re: Playing HD miniDV tapes on other devices
Stephan,
I'm afraid I don't. I'm still using the 4min. cleaner that came with my FX1E. As I exclusively use Sony 'Excellence' tapes, my camcorders rarely need cleaning.
Have you tried a dealer like CVP. They may have some old stock at the back of a shelf?

Re: Playing HD miniDV tapes on other devices
will any HD miniDV camcorder be able to do the job? ? Sort of. Canon and Sony use the same HDV standard so they should be interchangeable, although it's probably best to stick with the brand the tape was originally shot with. JVC HDV is a different flavor and will not work at all. In addition to th...

Re: Good headphones to monitor audio
Stephan, About 2-3 years ago, I bought a pair of Sony 7506 headphones and have never regretted it. Their sound seems to be fine with the ability to detect things via camera mics that cannot be heard with my ears alone. They also pick up camera noises, i.e. zoom motors, case creaks etc. which I need ...

Re: What is the best handycam?
Stephan, I haven't got a windshield for the H1 but it is very sensitive to wind and even air movement when handling. That's not a problem with a lavalier of course. So far, I've only used it on active stabilisation so haven't seen the true limit of optical zoom. You can see the degradation at the lo...

Re: What is the best handycam?
What a coincidence Stephan, I have used an HC3E for the last 6 years as a vacation camera, but mine is still in working order, (touch wood). I have just bought an HDR-CX730E to replace it. The versions with internal memory and projectors are not easy to get in the UK, but the 730 hits all the button...
