Re: EX1R or something else?

I don't have a link, but there is talk on other forums of another mystrious lump under the sheets of the F3 announcement. To be honest, I can't see Sony leaving the obvious demand for a more pro specced version of the VG10 unsatisfied for long. Thinking back to the FX1/Z1 launch, the FX1 appeared in...

Re: EX1R or something else?

Well it seems that Sony have another surprise lined up for release. With a bit of luck, it will be a competitor to the AF100/101. Apparently the 17 November is the magic day.

Re: EX1R or something else?

Stephan, Just a coincidence that I posted last night, and you got out of bed earlier than me this morning!* So it looks like the big offering from Sony is well out of my reach. That still leaves the broadcast entry level of the conventional mid-size camcorder market in Canon's hands unless a Nanofla...

EX1R or something else?

I've been preparing to get an EX1R as my next main camera early in the new year. As each month goes by it seems that Sony will have to do something to protect the EX range's market share: Canon have produced a product that is: a bit larger has a better (broadcast approved) codec it uses cheaper medi...

Re: Videos

diowery,

I like the pace of the video but what seems to be the problem with the camera moves is that pans start and finish with a jerk. Its as if the tripod didn't have a fluid head, and the abrupt start was caused by the stiction of a plain undamped bearing. Is this the case?

Re: Date of Creation of SonyHDVInfo

Actually, being pedantic, the DV standard was published in 1995 and there were Sony and JVC DV cameras on the market in 1996. For the record, the HDV spec was published in 2003 along with the launch of the rather half-hearted JVC GR-HD1 720p camera. The first real HDV camera was FX1(E) launched betw...

Re: Why FAT32?

There are other (free) options such as EXT2 & EXT3 which are files systems used with Linux. Both of them are without the limitations of FAT32, EXT3 is a journalling system like NTFS and of course they are free! There is at least one free windows application that can handle these systems, EXT2FS,...

Re: Sony FX7 motion blur?

Stephan, There has always been a problem with HDV when panning. The issue is that 25MB/s is fine when normal picture content moves, but when panning, (also when shooting rippled/waved water) the codec gets overloaded and (deliberately) reduces the resolution prior to macroblock coding which is visua...

Re: Possible to transfer movies BACK to the camcorder?

I have a PS3 and a WD-TV, (the original one without ethernet). Both will play raw HDV and AVCHD files as well as WMVHD and saved Vimeo files. In both cases, the quality is the same as when the camera is connected directly to the HDMI port. The PS3 plays them perfectly from my QNAP NAS over a Gigabit...

Re: a BBC review of the HVRV1

Alan has been pretty consistent with his settings recommendations, usually trading some sharpness for a clean, low-aliasing image. I remember him saying about the FX1 it its early days that the lens was a bit soft but it helped in providing a clean image whereas the HC1, (and A1, one of which he own...
