Re: Changing the settings of AX2000 recordings: GAMMA

The contrast between the scorching sun and the shadows is so tough on camcorders... Considering the unforgiving lighting conditions in your area, I'd say the AX2000 performs quite admirably here! If you want to put it to the ultimate test, check with a human face close-up. Not asking you to share th...

Re: Color correction - Tips & advice

Thank you Arkady! Indeed, an example of wrong white balance: how to correct daylight turning blue (check the 2nd part of that article), when you mix daylight with artificial light and your camcorder's white balance has locked onto the artificial light. On the opposite, I found one situation that is ...

Re: iLink/Firewire problems

Forgot checklist step 0: XP must be SP2 minimum, and most importantly your camcorder must be set to output HDV (not DV nor AUTO), with downconversion OFF.

Re: iLink/Firewire problems

When you say your camcorders aren't recognized, the first step in your troubleshooting steps is to look for the camcorders in the computer's Firewire device manager list (Windows Device Manager, or Mac Firewire device tree). When you power on the camcorder with Windows XP, you should hear the 'ding ...

Re: Color correction - Tips & advice

A few ideas... 1. I found there's a long way before you really need color correction. First and foremost, you need to identify if / why you feel dissatisfied with your video colors, what it is specifically that you want to improve . It would be pointless to engage into color correction stuff without...

Re: Sony HVR-Z5E: Premiere CS4 (Mac) Capture problem

Quicktime isn't an encoding format, it's only a wrapper that can contain a variety of encoding formats. So it's my understanding that, on Mac, you're still going to capture HDV (MPEG2) but it's going to rewrap your MPEG2 inside a Quicktime container. So I'd suggest you go along and capture all the w...

Re: Editing AVCHD clips

Thanks Arkady for this feedback. I once tried Vegas, and although I had been using Adobe Premiere Pro before that (no simple software!), somehow I found indeed the learning curve a bit steep with Vegas - too steep for me. But many people do enjoy it. About rendering times, I think 10:1 rendering tim...

Re: Camcorder vs. DSLR: an indie filmmaker's perspective

Beautiful photography! Very nice skin tones (with some make-up alright ;-) I always pay close attention to skin tones, they're a faithful test whether you're capable to control your colors or not. I also especially like the beautiful views of the helicopter (01:30, 03:39, 03:50-03:54 in the mountain...

Re: Editing software for Sony DCR-SX44

720p is HD, in a way. 720 and 1080 were competing at first (a few years ago), and 720p is still considered part of the HD family. But you surprise me here. You said Sony SX44, so I looked up and found this: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId...
