Re: Editing software for Sony DCR-SX44

Mildly off-topic for this website, since that is not a High Definition camcorder... Anyway, try Windows Live Movie Maker, or Ulead / Corel Videostudio. Simple, approachable software that should get you started. No idea whether they really support your camcorder, I didn't even know Sony does Standard...

Re: Outstanding video filmed on a Canon 7D

Had overlooked this... Nice! There's a 'photographic touch' in the colors / tones, very much like a Ken Burns animation... until the skater comes into the frame and you realize it's not just Ken Burns ;-) Shooting with a DSLR at knee level from a motorcycle, that must have been an unusual situation ...

Re: Sony HDR CX550E AUTO FOCUS PROBLEMS

I remember someone having a similar issue because they were filming as part of some legal process. As far as I remember (I may be very wrong here), only pro models (like Z1, Z5) would allow to embed the date/time. I think there was a tool which could process raw video files, retrieve date/time and e...

Re: Canon HV20/30/40 IEEE 1394 connectivity issues with Wind

Don't get carried away in the details of your investigations! Actually it's fairly simple: just use any of the commercial editing software that are available, they will ordinarily capture HDV for you, and will also further help you all along your editing workflow. They often have free trials, so you...

Re: Changing the settings of AX2000 recordings: GAMMA

Nice A/B test Arkady! The results are very subtle, I think I see less clipping and more gradation on the clouds in Clouds.jpg (that's good!), but on the other hand in Fence.jpg I can't see any difference. I recall previous camcorders were very extreme in Cinematone presets (to the point I felt these...

Re: Focussing at Infinity on the A1

My FX7 does the same. I always wondered why the two different symbols - apparently it's just the way Sony engineers designed the user interface. Inconsequential and nothing to worry about!

Re: HDR-FX1 film

People have ordinarily been satisfied with Sony Premium Mini DV tapes , which are quite fine to record HD. They are very common, and you will find them in just any store that sells camcorders. You might also want to buy the more expensive Sony DVM-63HD HDV tapes , but I personally never did and I've...

Re: Canon HV20/HV30/HV40 IEEE 1394 issues with Windows

Welcome here, kanone! 1st comment: I would have stated the recommended checklist upfront, before the extensive explanations... 2nd comment: the recommendation to use SP2+ with XP, and apply KB885222 on top of SP2 if necessary, matches what we have all experienced basically. But where you lose me is,...

P.82 Playback Set / Data Code / Date/Time, then p.88 Output Settings / Disp Output / V-Out/Panel if you want data code to be displayed on external video output in addition to built-in LCD. But the data code is only inserted at playback, it's not embedded in the video, so you will only see it when pl...

Re: Camcorder vs. DSLR: an indie filmmaker's perspective

Good debate! Taking a step back, I think the author's argument in comparing costs is just pointless. How can a filmmaker complain that $4000 is too expensive? As far as I recall, it's an order of magnitude (or close) cheaper than a fully equiped RED ONE, two orders cheaper than a Sony F35. If their ...
