Re: Sony NEX-VG10 (APS-C sensor, interchangeable lens)
http://vimeo.com/groups/nexvg10/videos/13508901 I still think that this camera looks a bit soft, (the bits that are meant to be in focus), even Z1/FX1 videos on Vimeo are sharper than that. I wonder if Sony have deliberately limited the bandwidth to avoid the high level of artifacts that are presen...

Re: Sony NEX-VG10 (APS-C sensor, interchangeable lens)
@Stephan, good write-up! Lack of true 1080/24,25,30,50,60p outputs, XLR inputs and having compressed lossy audio are big disappointments. We can only hope for a step-up model that takes care of these issues! I think everything but the compressed lossy audio will be addressed in another model. Can A...

Re: Monument Valley timelapse by Philip Bloom
Looks good like most of PB's work but it seemed a bit soft. The edges are a bit fuzzy making it difficult to see what is really meant to be in sharp focus.

Re: xvColor and AX2000
To Steve …I'm not sure that it is unless the Sony professional range is going over to consumer microphone sockets like 3.5mm. I doubt that pro users would take that very seriously… Seriously, Steve, have you ever seen the NX5U? The B&H technical site reads about it the following: “The HXR-NX5U ...

Re: xvColor and AX2000
As to why xvCC isn’t included in the professional cameras’ specifications, you’re mistaken. And the point in the case is the new Sony NXCAM HXR-NX5U professional camcorder. I'm not sure that it is unless the Sony professional range is going over to consumer microphone sockets like 3.5mm. I doubt th...

Re: xvColor and AX2000
Just to mention once again: In the DV days, say 10 years ago, when I used Premiere, an option of 'NTSC compliant' and full 8 bit encoding was available in the output rendering menus. This allowed projects rendered for non-broadcast use (probably most of them) to use the full 8 bit range and not be c...

Re: xvColor and AX2000
As to the limited colour gradation, I think we are talking about two different things: how much colour we have and how many gradations between colours we get in the picture. The amount of colours is extended in the xvYCC colour model (that was an idea of it), the quantity of gradation (gray scale) ...

Re: xvColor and AX2000
The 16-235 range restriction is a legacy of composite video when used for broadcasting to prevent over modulation. Since digital video and editing has been in general use, there has been the option to spread the (albeit limited) gamut over the full 8 bit (0-255) range. The removal of this unnecessar...

Re: HDV Split
This free HDTV video capture program works fine for me. But has anyone tried to have it recognize a seperate mic besides the one in the camers on i1394? The program is a freebie from "Paviko" and comes up fast with my camera picture/sound ready to capture. I just need a second mic input i...
