Re: XR520VE - x.v. colour

Yes, it is correct: xvYCC (or Extended-gamut YCC) is another name for the color space x.v.Color. Maybe, the reason you see more attractive colors when you switch off [x.v.Color] function of your TV, is related to the connection you use to play back your clips on the TV. To transmit xvYCC-encoded vid...

Re: 3D Shooting

Thank you Stephan for your comments (and observation). Most commonly people wouldn't associate shallow DOF to 3D. Unfortunately, people usually say what they have been told. And they are told that a parallax-based video (i.e. stereo) is the only 3D ever existed. Who told them this, you may ask? TV a...

3D Shooting

After Avatar success, 3D has become a buzzword. Nowadays, everything must be three-dimensional: movies, TV programs, computer games and operating systems. Various manufactures are standing in line vying with each other to offer a new 3D gadget almost on a daily basis. So, it is natural that the inte...

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

For sure AVCHD is designed as a capturing format and is not a nice editing format. Yes Doughie, I agree. And I say more, as a capturing format, AVCHD is very accomplished one. Maybe it is not only AVCHD per se but also the camera’s Exmor sensors or G lens, however when yesterday’s night I was watch...

Re: Trouble exporting files from PMB into HD

Hey Chris, I do not know what PMB is, but if the only purpose to use it is to publish your video clips on YouTube, I have an excellent alternative for you. Use MyMovie – Windows Live Movie Maker (it’s a part of the Windows Live suite). It is free, available and very capable. In one click you can eit...

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

After hours of watching side-by-side footage made with the FX7 and AX2000 (saying “side-by-side”, I really mean it: my office computer has three video boards lighting up six monitors, of which two are identical 24’ Phillips LCD Full HD displays, so I can run two different clips on two screens in ful...

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

It is hard to say. In truth, I think, the “back focus” issue is a fault of the FX7 camera firmware rather than a consequence of its inferior lenses. Look, the V1/FX7 was the first Sony model with 1/4 type CMOS sensors, so they (Sony) had to develop an entirely new optical system for that camcorder (...

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

Yesterday I tested `back focus’ on my camcorders. I hanged up a piece of newsmagazine on my kitchen window and taking a camera on a tripod from the distance of about 4 meters I moved the camera zoom ring towards telephoto end, adjusted focus manually, and then moved zoom towards wide angle. After ma...

Re: Repairing the image database

Those files (you mentioned in your post) are image management files located in the AVF_INFO folder. As the Sony manual reads, “When you delete the files, you cannot record/play back the images correctly. The files are defaulted as hidden files and not usually displayed.” My guess, they play the same...

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

Actually, I have never been fond of night shooting (probably knowing that no consumer camera could ever record subjects clearly in light as low as ordinary nighttime street lighting). Sure, I had a couple of happenstances when I had some acceptable night shots of Virgin Megastore and Kodak Theater i...
