Re: Sound on Sony MC2000u
This is an interesting observation and it is one of the things we didn't test in our hands-on review. I guess we always assume the audio will be awful with any internal/integral mic. Sounds transferred through the body of a cam are always an issue. But as the mic and holder are offset from the body ...

Re: Sony HXR-MC2000 Hands-On Review
To be totally honest with you, I'm not sure the MC2000 will give you better results than what you have. What cam were you using? What size chip? The MC is a small consumer Handycam trapped in a huge body. It is not a Pro cam. You might be better off with a cx 500 or 700 series, which has a bigger ch...

Re: HXR-NX5e - Tech. Information
And as I'm sure Doughie would agree, even before you get your hands on the cam, you should spend a few hours with the manual and read it from cover to cover, so you know everything the cam can and cannot do. If you Google "Frank's Thoughts on HDV" you will find virtually every HDV/AVCHD ca...

Re: HXR-NX5e - Tech. Information
Let me see if I can help out a little. I don't use the NX5, but I have a group of Z5s, which are essentially the same camera with a few minor differences. I don't know of any major drawbacks to the NX5 as such. It's one of the best all-around cams in its class. I think the Z5 is hands down the best ...

Re: Sony HDR-CX250, is it a wretched camcorder or not?
If you need one to record at night this is not the one for you. It has a very small sensor, as do all cams in this price range. You need something in the cx500 series or better, but they are much more expensive. Unfortunately you must pay for better performance. Many people report hearing the sound ...

Re: Sony HXR-MC2000 Hands-On Review
More importantly, how can that possibly present a problem? All professionals shoot for many seconds before and after the necessary shot to give themselves the handles they need for editing. Shooting only the frames you think you need is strictly amateur birthday party iPhone stuff. When the interest...

Re: Choosing between camcorders
Agree with everything Stephan and Doughie said. Even though I'm a big Sony user, I have to tell you that if you are a still photog and care about image quality, you will likely be very unhappy with even the 130. The tiny chip gives really poor performance. You really need to go to the 500 or 700 ser...

Re: Dropouts on Sony HVR-Z5U tape
The Z5 shoots only one HDV format -- m2t -- so that is what the MRC will record. It only records what you send it -- there are no HDV options to select. It does give you a choice of DV formats but this is only applicable if you are shooting SD DV, not HD. And of course you can't change a clip from D...

In the old days, if you couldn't afford a fog machine, you used a fog filter. Not the same, of course. And obviously you can do it in post as well.

Re: Upgrading to HD
600 lines isn't bad. It's not HD but it's better than most and should be good for framing purposes. I'm not sure I'd use it to check critical focus or color issues. Ikan has a pretty good reputation. 480p is okay but you can get that for less than $100, and I wouldn't pay more than that. Of course u...
