Re: HDR-HC7 problems

I have an HC3 that has given good service over 6 years. However in recent months, it has developed a stutter in its zoom operation. I suppose as consumer kit, it has reached the end of its useful life. I have just bought a CX730E which shows just how far Sony has advanced camcorder design in the per...

Re: Sony PMW-EX1R and PMW-EX3 Rebates

To revive this thread on the same topic: So Sony have at last announced a successor to the EX1R, the PMW-220. It has the same functional role as the EX1/3 except that the top codec is Sony's XDCAM-HD 4:2:2 50Mb/s one as used on the PMW-500. Although the format is the same as the EX1, the design seem...

Re: Camera, camcorder suggestions for indie film

I'm already setup for editing because I still have my audio/video computer studio setup. Brand is not as important as quality, and features . A plus is 24p, low lux, dof, etc. Thanks Willax Your choice of camera will be constrained if you want to continue with your 'audio/video computer setup. Virt...

Re: Camcorder suggestion for live streaming

Paul,

I believe that it's possible to use VLC as a streaming application as well as a capture program. I have captured much HDV through it but never had the need to stream HDV. It may be worth a try.

Re: Shooting a flat image with an FX-1

The FX1 was released some three months before the Z1, so I imagine that the professional division tweaked the locked-down firmware of the FX1 to make it a viable pro product. I bought my FX1E in January 2005 at the London Video Expo where Sony were launching the Z1. I got a Beachtek DXA4 thrown in -...

Re: Sony HVR-Z5U upgrade from a VX2000?

Just to toss in the odd comment: Nobody here has mentioned media archiving. This is the big dilemma when abandoning tape and choosing file based recording. Good old tape has a proven record for longevity without too many restrictions on how it is stored. It is cheap enough to put every tape on the s...

Re: HDR-HC1 monitor

You would need special software to record to the laptop via FW, such as Adobe OnLocation, which comes with CS5.5, and which you would also need to simply monitor. I don't believe you can do so otherwise. You can do this whether or not you are recording to tape. Another alternative is to add the MRC...

Re: HDR-TD10 in Really Dusty Conditions

All the sports cases use the LANC or AV remote control facility to turn the camera on and off. Its not practical to have a standby capability that can be woken up by an IR remote as the camera would then be drawing power all the time and would also need to be able to change mode from record to repla...

Re: HDR-TD10 in Really Dusty Conditions

The Sony recommendation would be a 'Sports Pack' which is waterproof and dustproof and has external controls to enable start, stop zoom stills and on/off fuctions. Playback functions can be enabled with an infra red remote control through the clear plastic case. As you suggested, they don't currentl...
