Re: New Panasonic HDC-TM900 / HDC-HS900 / HDC-SD900 / HDC-SD
For what it's worth, I count eleven new high-def consumer-grade camcorders from Panasonic, as follows. HDC-HS80 HDC-HS900 HDC-SD40 HDC-SD80 HDC-SD90 HDC-SD800 HDC-SD900 HDC-TM40 HDC-TM80 HDC-TM90 HDC-TM900 They often have some Japan-only models as well, so even the list above is most likely incomple...

Re: Sony U.S. HDV Rebates
Just so that everyone knows, Sony has extended this mail-in rebate offer to March 31, 2011. I had been expecting that they would do this, so I wasn't surprised to learn that they had. Someone asked me the other day why the HVR-S270U camcorder and Sony's four decks (VCRs), the HVR-M15AU, HVR-M25AU, H...

Re: "Glad You Are Back!!"
Hello Stephan, so sorry to hear about the illness, and as someone who deals with chronic dental trouble, I can appreciate what that means. Perhaps I'll start working on some new year's resolutions as well. Sincerely, Frank, Independent Consultant, New York, NY Read Frank's thoughts on HDV [ also cov...

Sony U.S. HDV Rebates
I realize that interest in the HDV format has waned considerably over the course of the last couple of years, but I thought that someone should mention that Sony U.S., as they are often prone to do at this time of year, is offering mail-in rebates on select HDV camcorders, as follows... HVR-Z7U $500...

Re: NX5U Outputs
As Stephan has indicated, that connector on the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1950 is an RF input jack, designed to accept an antenna/aerial or the RF output of a cable television converter box, for example. It's useless when teamed with almost any camcorder because camcorders virtually never have RF outputs....

Re: Canon HV20/30/40 IEEE 1394 connectivity issues with Wind
Hi everyone, just noticed the more-recent posts in this thread. I don't think that I ever received e-mail messages informing me that follow-ups had been posted. Perhaps I inadvertently had the "Notify me when a reply is posted" checkbox unchecked. Frank, Thanks for your comments. You're ve...

Re: HXR-MC50e new pro version of CX550
The HVR-A1-series camcorders included a removable/detachable audio module with balanced 3-pin Mic/Line switchable XLR jacks. Some people that I was working with at the time of the introduction of the HVR-A1 liked the fact that the audio module was removable as the camcorder could be used in a much m...

Re: Good News--Sony Repair / Parts Info
I'm wondering if any of the Big Brothers...i.e., "3-Chippers" FX-1, FX7, Z1U, Z5, etc... will eventually suffer this "flex ribbon cable" fate? Yes, I believe that any product that employs a flexible ribbon cable (that gets flexed a lot, that is) is a potential failure at some po...
