Re: New Sony HDR-CX760V HDR-CX740VE

Hi, That's the new Stereo Videomic Pro , and I do have a DeadCat (actually, the smaller Dead Kitten LOL :-) No, as there is no visual indicator for saturation (as opposed to FX7 for instance) I decided to record "lower level" (there's a setting for that) in order to try & avoid saturat...

Re: Does Sony AX2000 make bad AVCHD files?

If you're using EDIUS, you need to convert all input video files to the Canopus HQ codec (I believe there's a bundled utility for that). Do not edit native AVCHD, use Canopus HQ for best performance regardless of which camcorder you're using.

Re: New Sony HDR-CX760V HDR-CX740VE

Hi, great question! With no easy answer. Not just price, the HDR-CX760V has 96GB internal memory vs. 32GB for the HDR-CX740VE. They are all recording the same MPEG4 (AVCHD), the resolution is exactly the same (1920x1080 square pixels), and you are right to say that the only essential recording diffe...

Re: Sony AX2000: is possible to update the firmware?

Hi, I've never seen any "consumer" Sony camcorder that would be upgradeable.

Re: aspect ratio

Hi, As you figured, it's not just the resolution that counts - each video file has a Pixel Aspect Ratio flag stored somewhere in the file that will tell either the video player, or your editing software, how to interpret the video. For example, here are various combinations; - HDV is 1440x1080 with ...

New Sony HDR-CX760V HDR-CX740VE

SOHDRCX760VB The new consumer Sony camcorders, that were announced at CES 2012, are out any minute now... In the US, you have the new HDR-CX760V with 96GB embedded flash memory, while in Europe you have the HDR-CX740VE (French website) with only 32GB internal memory. My guess is, the crippled memor...

Re: Choosing between camcorders

Hi, it seems the CX130 was a former model from last year, probably soon unavailable and replaced by the newer 190 - so sooner or later you won't have a choice between one or the other. Oddly enough, it seems the CX190 has a smaller 1/6'' sensor , compared to 1/4'' in the CX130 , and also Digital Ima...

Re: Sony HDR-XR350V Data Error problem

I hate to be saying this, but it seems that a trip to the service center is in order indeed :-/ I've seen with computers that when there is an issue with a hard drive, or with the controller electronics that drive it, it seems to be working fine until the whole thing's had time to warm up a bit, and...

Re: Bloom to head off on Kimberley tour (NW Australia)

That was here: The Kimberley - West Australia . It's a dream cruise!! Let's hope this goes beyond the usual sliding shots and timelapses with canned music loops. He should try to tell a story, sometimes - make a more lively travel diary / documentary (with ambient sound), but I realize this is so mu...

Re: Upgrading to HD

When you get your iMac be sure to get as much memory as you can, I bought my Mac Pro from B&H but I bought the minimum memory and bought a 32GB package from "Other World Computing That's it, I placed my order yesterday - 27'' built-to-order with 256GB SSD and 2TB disk. Actually the guy fro...
