Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

Thank you Doughie…

What the new camera checks can do without the famous (or infamous) “Burning candle” test and shallow focus pictures?

So, I did them all, here are some screenshots, see for yourselves.

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

I did some tests of the dynamic range of the camcorders AX2000 vs. FX7. Sure, it is not easy task to do, and honestly speaking without suitable measurement devices is quite difficult to compare the limits of luminance range which two different cameras can capture. Therefore, for a refer point in suc...

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

Stephan, Your explanation on the subject of lesser sharpness (detail) midpoint level in Sony new camera AX2000 is logic and sound. Well, it seems very believable that to avoid all that fuss about aliasing they (Sony) came out with the simple anti-aliased technique: turn the sharpness down. Ha! Regar...

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

Really? I never noticed a thing. I tell you more, after experienced that resolution fall with the new AX2000 I checked my old screenshots taken from various footages made with the FX7. Sharpness wise, whatever the aperture is, they all are alike. Perhaps, it was something that hindered me to observe...

Re: Got a new HXR-NX5U

Greeting John and my congratulations on getting a new HXR-NX5U! Hope you will share with us your first steps with the camera! Meantime two things I ‘d like to say. Please, take no offence, but your post sounds a little bit as a commercial, don’t you think? At least, it appeared to me that way… Secon...

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

Thank you Stephan for your comments. Interesting… I did not adjusted sharpness in either camera during the test: after countless changes of the camcorder recording, at the end I left my FX7 in its factory settings (sharpness=7 in the scale from 0 to 15), and I didn’t touch yet the detail level of AX...

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

Most probably, you are right.

According to Adam Witt’s testimony (he previewed Sony HXR-NX5U – professional sibling of HDR-AX2000U at ProVideo Coalition.com), “The NX5U’s images are virtually identical to those from the HVR-Z5U” (professional version of HDR-FX1000U).

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

In my previous post when I said “the advantage of negative gain”, I meant that the AX2000 is capable of recording virtually noiseless images (under good light, of course). As an example: look closely on the concrete wall near the tree; these two pictures are fragments cut from clips I recorded with ...

Re: On the way from FX7 to AX2000E

I’ve made some resolution tests of two cameras (FX7 and AX2000) under low light condition (one overhead luminescent 60 Watt lamp).

The cams’ data are following.

The FX7E parameters: f/1.8, 1/50 sec., 6 dB, auto WB;
the AX2000 parameters: f/3.4, 1/25(p) sec., minus 3 dB, auto WB.
