The lull before the storm.

Post by steve »

This board has been fairly quiet lately. Are the posters all waiting for the deluge that NAB will seed?

Is it the earthquake in Japan, or the radioactive spill, or the war going on here and there, or the economy, or the royal wedding... Or everybody waiting for somebody else to speak out. We all seem to have our minds temporarily elsewhere these days.

There's this new Sony NEX-FS100 that Sony had teased us about some months ago. And yet, well... Meh, is anybody caring?

Oh yes, the rumors for the next Final Cut Pro! The storm's coming, fanboys! :-)

April 9-14. Expect the real announcements to start on Monday 11. What will come up?

I imagine Sony will confirm the future for EX recording, whether they will respond to Canon's 50Mb/s 4:2:2 codec or stick with 35Mb/s 4:2:0 is the big question. They should be announcing developments in decent zoom lens for the FS100 and maybe the F3.
Panasonic will be pushing the AF100/101 (presumably trying to dampen criticism about its performance in recent tests) - something that has caused at least two discussion forums to panic and put a ban on critical discussion.
Will Canon (video) move into the big sensor arena, and in the process undermine their SLR business's profitable sideshow.
There will be the bazaar of bolt-ons to make SLRs look even more like Roland Emmet contraptions.
Hopefully there will be a few completely unexpected surprises.

We wait in anticipation.
