Problem with new HDR-CX700V

Hi to all. New guy here.
I just bought my first ever video camera, a Sony HDR-CX700V.
It worked fine and came with the NP-FV50 battery but I bought a couple of NP-FV100 batteries to give me more shooting time.

The problem:
When I use either of the FV100 batteries the cam runs for less than a minute then I get a flashing error on the screen (C:04:00) saying the incorrect battery is installed and then the camera shuts down.
Putting the FV50 back in and the camera runs fine.
I called Sony and they said since neither of the FV100 batteries would work, I should return the camera for repairs.
They thought if the condition was with a single battery it may be a battery issue.
But since both new batteries did the same thing they said it must be a camera issue.
They told me that the FV100 battery is compliant with the CX700.

So the camera is on it's way to the shop but I am asking if anyone has had a similar problem?
This is not a good way to start with my first video camera.

And just to confirm, these are geniune Sony batts from an authorized Sony reseller, not third-party aftermarket batts or bought on eBay?

Yes sir, both FV100 batteries are genuine Sony equipment bought at a camera dealer through Amazon.com.
I made it a point to not buy some knock off battery and there are a lot of them out there.

The camera is now Fedex'd to SouthTX and will be delivered to the Sony Factory repair shop on Monday.
The camera works perfectly with the FV50 battery installed, but either of the FV100 batteries cause the camera to shut down.
Why this should happen I have no idea.
I sure will be glad to get it back though.

yes generally when this sort of thing happens, it's because the battery is not genuine Sony.

sony batteries 'talk' to the camcorder and the camcorder will often refuse to run if it doesnt get the right 'answer' back from the battery.
As Adam said, there are a lot of fake Sony batts out there masquearading as Original Equipment. dont know if this is what happened in your case, but i guess you will find out soon enough.

Yes there are and I am well aware of that.
For instance I would not ever purchase such a battery on Ebay or worse yet Hong Kong or Korea.
I got both batteries from the same seller, a photo shop selling through Amazon.com.

The batteries are both in identical packaging and are clearly marked as Sony.
If they are fakes, then the maker should be printing money, not making phony batteries.
Tomorrow the camera will be at the Sony repair shop and I am sure they will tell me if I have batteries other than Sony.

I thought maybe the problem was I needed a software update for the camera from Sony (so I tried that) to detect the FV100 battery.
Did not do the trick.
