can't delete internal memory hxr-mc50

Hi,
I'm in serious panic. the internal memory was full on my camera. I connected via USB cable to computer's external hard drive and copied all files there. so the files are on the harddisk, but they are also still on camera. so, from the computer, I deleted the files from the camera. (the stream,playlist, dcim, NOT system files). THIS WAS A BAD IDEA. I know that now.

when I disconnected camera, the internal memory was still full. when I tried to delete all from within camera, there are no files to delete. no files to protect (or unprotect). no files in playback.

I tried to copy files back from computer's (Macbook) external harddrive to camera, so that it could find them, then delete them from the camera. but, the camera is 'full' so I can't copy anything to it.

I am stuck with an empty camera that is full.... any ideas?
I tried hitting the reset buton, this did not help. I am now desperate as I have to go filming, and the little external memory cards are too small for my needs. heeeeellllllp....

From page 4 of the US manual for the MC50U:

...perform [MEDIA FORMAT] by touching
(MENU) > [Show others]>[MEDIA FORMAT] (under [MANAGE
MEDIA] category) > the desired medium > [YES] > [YES] > .

Or, from page 5 of the Spanish version for the MC50E available in Spain:

... ejecute [FORMAT.
SOPORTE] tocando (MENU) > [Mostrar otros] > [FORMAT.SOPORTE]
(en la categoría [GEST.SOPORTE]) > el
soporte que desee > [SÍ] > [SÍ] .

If this is not successful then you've likely killed the internal memory and will have to send the cam in for service.
