Sony HVR-Z5E: Premiere CS4 (Mac) Capture problem

Hi all,


I recently bought the Sony HVR-Z5E. I'm now trying to capture some test footage but somehow it's not working.

Problem: Only QuickTime available as capture format in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 (Mac)


Specs & settings:

Computer
- Mac Pro
- Dual 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
- 8GB 1066 Mhz DDR3
- Nvidia GeForce GT 120

Camera
- Sony HVR-Z5E
- Connected via AC-adapter
- Connected via iLink (recognized in System Profiler FireWire device tree)

Camera settings
- Recording mode HDV1080i
- iLink HDV to DV down convert = OFF

Software Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 (v4.2.1) (full version, registered)

DV/HDV Device Control Settings
- PAL
- Sony
- Standard
- Non Drop-Frame
- Online


- Camera control is possible in Capture window

Is there any one who can tell me what I'm missing out on?

Any tips/help is highly appreciated,

Quicktime isn't an encoding format, it's only a wrapper that can contain a variety of encoding formats. So it's my understanding that, on Mac, you're still going to capture HDV (MPEG2) but it's going to rewrap your MPEG2 inside a Quicktime container. So I'd suggest you go along and capture all the way into Quicktime container files.

But I'm no Mac expert (I don't own one), and I hope someone else may further answer your question.

I finally managed to capture HDV (MPEG2) :)

Apparently my current OSX user account (admin) is damaged or has limited system permissions which preventing Premiere to capture properly.
Creating a new admin account solved the problem (see previous post on the Adobe TechNote for a detailed description of the solution(s).
