I cannot figure out which wide angle lens to buy for my HDR CX110. I know I need 30mm, and that is about it. I used my old Sony HC46 25mm wide angle lens all the time and expect I would use the wide angle lens most of the time with this camera.
Thank you for any insight you can provide!

ok given that the above dedicated 30mm-thread lens appears discontinued then i would recommend (if you cannot get the above one at another retailer) to get this one (VCL-HGA07B, see link on left).
US$145, and it is a 37mm thread (this is the latest in quite a long line of 37mm WA lenses from sony) BUT it has a 30mm step-up ring. this means it will attach fine to your camera and if sony designed it well, and they generally do, then it shouldnt vignette on your cam.
My firm advice with anybody buying Sony WA or tele attachment lenses is to always get one with the "HG" nomenclature. - this signifies "Hi-Grade" and you want the optics to be as good as possible. I have an "HG" sony 0.7x wideangle lens and its functioned great on various camcorders. No noticeable or significant image degradation or chromatic aberration.
Other manufacturers of these type of lenses include Raynox, Schneider and others.

Re: Which wide angle lens for HDR CX110?
I recently had to solve this question myself. The CX110 is a $250 camera (May 1, 2011). It's a bit overkill to spend $150 on a wide angle lens. There are two available on Amazon for about $30 that are made by Sony. One is silver and one is black/grey. One is 0.6x and the other is 0.7x. The former with a little distortion the latter with very little.
It appears that going under 0.7x means that distortion is unavoidable. This is why I went with the 0.7x even if I'd rather have the ability to get more stuff into the frame. The 0.7x is unfortunately only available in silver, which doesn't match my black camera. For $30 though, it's hard to beat. From what I understand, there is no vignetting (black shadows in the corners of your shot). It comes with the necessary 30mm adapters and lens caps.

I was hoping to get an update on wide angle lens recommendations for the HDR CX110. I almost bought one recently and then saw
others at varying prices. Sugarkang's $30 recommendation in a previous post sounds interesting, but I couldn't find that 0.7x lens on Amazon that he described. Thank you!

I went ahead and bought this package as the reviews on this particular Opteka .5x wide angle lens were excellent and felt I
couldn't go wrong for $30. Thoughts?

Re: Which wide angle lens for HDR CX110?
I tend to avoid add-on lenses (I once had one, that induced too much distorsion) and as the saying goes, "Buy Cheap Buy Twice" (*). But the discount is good ($30 from $110 regular price) so who knows, you might have a pleasant surprise... Let us know how it goes!
