Hi,
I will be travelling to the US tomorrow, from Ireland, and I will be using my HVR-Z7E while there. My question is; can I use the AC-VQ1050 battery charger there, using a plug adaptor? I would appreciate a speedy reply . Many thanks.
Using AC-VQ1050 battery charger in the USA
Re: Using AC-VQ1050 battery charger in the USA
Check the label on the charger, all similar chargers I've used for years are ordinarily compatible with both 120V/60Hz (North America and Japan - roughly) and 220V/50Hz (rest of the world).
The plugs are different indeed, you definitely need an adapter for North America. I've done that multiple times in the US or Canada (not with the AC-VQ1050 though but with another model), so I think you should be fine.

Thanks for the speedy reply, Stephan. The Sony battery charger has a lot of data in Japanese but this is what I can make out;
INPUT 100-240V 50/60 22W
12/24V
OUTPUT
8.4V 2.0A VCR
8.4V 1.8A BATT
I am presuming that that it will work ok with a standard US plug adaptor

Re: Using AC-VQ1050 battery charger in the USA
Yes, I believe it will. 100-240V is the acceptable voltage range (USA is 120V) and 50/60 are the acceptable frequencies in Hz (USA is 60Hz). Get plug adapters for each device you're travelling with (you don't want your cell phone battery to die while your camcorder is charging every night ;-) and have a nice trip!
