Re: HDR-HC1: can camera settings be changed from the compute

Hi, I don't think that's possible. Sometimes, it looks like these things are designed to wear down after a few years, and anyway consumer cams have made enormous progress since the HDR-HC1 was released, so maybe time to upgrade indeed!

Re: Canon HF G30: removable handle

Did you make your own research? Check the product pages at B&H PhotoVideo:

or the product pages at Canon. It seems the detachable handle only comes with the XA20, and is not available separately.

Re: Playing HD miniDV tapes on other devices

Yes, I checked them first: Sony DVM12CLD (DVM-12CLD) Mini DV Head Cleaner and it's marked Discontinued ! I found a different reference (DVM4CLD2 ?!) closer to me with a relatively reputable seller: Cassette de nettoyage mini dv sony 4 min DVM4CLD2 , I think I'll order that one or pay them a visit. I...

Re: Playing HD miniDV tapes on other devices

By the way, Steve, would you know where to obtain the good old DVM-12CLD Sony cleaning tape on this side of the ocean? It seems to be discontinued just about everywhere I look, or only available with a couple of potentially disreputable niche sellers. I don't want to risk a generic cleaning tape, on...

Re: Playing HD miniDV tapes on other devices

Hi, HDMI is fully digital, and so is the Firewire interface that you use to capture HDV video onto your computer. The digital bit stream that gets transferred onto those is fully & faithfully inherent to the original quality that your HV30 was able to record. So you will get equal playback quali...

Re: Which best handycam HD 1080i?

I have the HDR-CX740VE, and am very satisfied with the video. Better than the FX7, so I'd expect it to be close, or on par with your NX5. Except at night, though - The small lens "haloes" a lot (more than the FX7 that I know), like city lights look dreadful. So if you shoot at night, be aw...

Re: Sony HVR-M15 with iMovie

iMovie doesn't do native codec editing, it will instead transcode to Apple Intermediate Codec. What's worse is, in many cases iMovie 09 will downgrade your HD video to lower resolution as explained in this thread: Importing in HD to iMovie 09 and also investigated apparently by Steve Mullen (search ...

Re: Pinnacle 14 & file management

Well, I'm not sure if that's what you mean, but 'create' and 'burn' are 2 different things. For the sake of clarity, the typical editing/authoring workflow is this: 1. Collect raw video files (e.g. from tapes). 2. Edit the video files (even if that's basic edits) to produce a finished movie. 3. Crea...

Re: Pinnacle 14 & file management

Keep the precious VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders, they *are* the DVD. iso or img image files are just wrappers that include VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS in a more convenient form for burning a DVD.

Here's a tutorial for instance: How to burn DVD folders with ImgBurn.
