Re: Odd timecode display

No, just try switching TC MAKE to REGENERATE. See what happens then.

Your minute of bars should take you from 00;00;00;00 to 00;01;00;00. Make sure you see the colons between the pairs of digits. If they are not there you are displaying User Bits rather than TC, which is another issue entirely.

Re: Odd timecode display

Yes, that's correct, but your cam searches for existing TC and then uses that as a start point for laying down new code. If it finds none and it is in REC RUN, it should reset to zero. Which is why I think the culprit is your cam being in FREE RUN (possible) or there already being TC on the tape (ve...

Re: Odd timecode display

Very good idea to shoot a minute of bars. I do the same. The question here, of course, is why this has suddenly begun happening if it never happened before. Has someone else had your cam who could have changed the settings? Could you have changed them by mistake? Or maybe it is the tape after all. C...

Re: Odd timecode display

Page 85. Set TC RUN to REC RUN and TC MAKE to REGENERATE. If this doesn't work go to TC PRESET and select RESET. But before you do that, can you look at what the settings currently are for those things and report back? The second tape you put in, this was a fresh new unused tape straight from the sh...

Re: Odd timecode display

What cam are you using? If it's something like the Z5, you have the choice of TC REGENERATE or PRESET.

Consumer cams nearly always reset to zero with each new tape, but higher level cams give you the choice.

It's not likely due to the tape.

Re: Slow motion recording on FX1?

You certainly wouldn't be the first person to be confused by the Sony documentation, which always seems to be written for those who already know all about the cam's controls and therefore don't actually need the manual.

Re: Slow motion recording 2

The shutter speed changes the amount of blur only. It does not affect the apparent speed of the motion. A short shutter speed (a number greater than 50 or 60, such as 1/250th) will give that stuttery "Saving Private Ryan" look. A slower shutter speed like 1/30 will add more blur and give t...

Re: Slow motion recording

Only in post. The FX1 does not offer SMOOTH SLOW RECORD, which didn't become a regular feature until the introduction of the V1/FX7 a while later.

Just slow it down on the timeline of your editing package.

Re: iLink/Firewire problems

The most common reason for this is as noted above, a settings mismatch in your NLE. That is, you have an HDV project set up but have Premiere set for DV capture or DV device control, or Premiere is correct but the cam is set for DV output or i.Link Conversion, or you shot in DV mode. Or vice versa. ...

Re: Focus Problem Sony FX1

That's a very plausible theory and an easy way to check.
