No, I think you've nailed it. Not fixable in the field.
Unless the OP is just inexperienced with the FX1 and is just commenting on the general softness compared to newer cams, especially noticeable at WA.

Re: HVR V1E, lost frames in recording.
Yes, I can confirm this. Several hundred Sony tapes over the past seven years or so, and very few dropouts. But note that a cam which hasn't been used much -- even if it's been sitting on the shelf for years -- can be more prone to dropouts for the first few hours of head life, until the heads get &...

Re: Telephoto lens for HDR-FX1
You will always have this vignetting problem to some degree when you add another lens in front of your stock lens. That's why these lenses are called "partial Zoom-through." You'll always see those corners at the wide end of the zoom range. That being said, the Schneider lenses have gotten...

Re: Sony HDV Z1E
The Z1 is one of the best cams ever made in that price range. It's brilliant on its own -- just leave everything on Auto until you get comfortable with it. Experiment a bit and make sure you read the manual from cover to cover... a few times. Learning composition and using a tripod at all times are ...

Re: Sony ZI iris
Yes, it changes the amount of light hitting the chip, but the other settings will compensate if they're in Auto. Just leave everything in Auto until you gain more experience with the camera and understand basic photographic and video theory.

Re: Sony HDR CX550E AUTO FOCUS PROBLEMS
Auto focus works by identifying areas of contrast. If there isn't any (or much) it can't do its job. Most auto focus tends to favor the center of the frame. So you could try centering the frame over something nearby and contrasty, then move over while you shoot. It might or might not hold focus if i...

Re: Upgrade to NX5U from FX1?
Wow, then my memory fails me and I stand corrected. Haven't had my FX1's for more than a year now so i guess I forgot about that zoom.

Re: Upgrade to NX5U from FX1?
While the Z1/FX1 were indeed brilliant cams in their day, and they continue to be solid, nearly indestructible workhorses, technology has really moved on and the Z5/FX1000/NX5/AX2000 are vastly superior in terms of image and features (they're all basically the same cam). You've neatly described most...

Re: Capturing from Sony FX7 or Sony HC-9
If everything works perfectly in FCP but not in Premiere or HDV Split, then I am out of ideas. Can you post a screen shot of your Project, Capture and Device control settings?
