HDR-XR350VE

Hello
I am new to the forum and in the process of evaluating the above model.
I have had a camcorder for a number of years and now feel the time to step into the 21st century.
BUT the size of the new units are a big cause of concern as I have big hands and cannot get my hand fully into the velcro strap on the side, even when the strap is extended to the full open postion.
The salesman looked on amused as I truggled to operate the unit comfortubly, the strap being in a postion near the bottom of my fingers, just above the knuckle. I did not feel I could operate the unit withiut the strap in the correct position. He could offer no solution.
Have you guys a solution?
