HDR video with Canon 5D Mark II
HDR video with Canon 5D Mark II
I (everybody?) thought that HDR (High Dynamic Range) was reserved for still photography? Well, somebody took the challenge and shot High Dynamic Range video with two Canon 5D Mark II...

Interesting, they used timelapse. But i dont like this kind of effects in peoples.
Re: HDR video with Canon 5D Mark II
Not timelapse, but true video with 1:1 motion speed. And as they had no way to synchronize the two distinct shutters, you can see some faint flickering sometimes.

Re: HDR video with Canon 5D Mark II
So, they used two cameras, right?
Re: HDR video with Canon 5D Mark II
Yes, that's what is written in the Vimeo page I linked to, in my 1st post: "Video is captured on two Canon 5D mark II DSLRs, each capturing the exact same subject via a beam splitter."

Re: HDR video with Canon 5D Mark II
So.... we can do that with another cameras like the FX1, Z1, HVX200, HV40. Right?
BUT, i think that the latitude of these kind of cameras(smaller sensor) will be a problem.

Re: HDR video with Canon 5D Mark II
Not just the lower latitude, but also the integrated lens. There's no mention of what kind of beam splitter they used exactly, but I would expect it to require a standard lens mount (therefore excluding all cams that have integrated lenses).
One commenter in Vimeo linked to this kind of device:

Maybe they used something similar...

Adapters and more adapters. :)
Do you know how they make this effect in the post-production?
In Photoshop is Batch > HDR, and video?

For *stills* if i want to process an HDR image(s) that i have taken, i use Photomatix Pro 3.2
I think HDR stuff can look good, if its used sparingly. Like anything, you can definitely overdo it.
