Sony NEX-VG10 (APS-C sensor, interchangeable lens)
Re: Sony NEX-VG10 (APS-C sensor, interchangeable lens)
Matt Jeppsen thinks too there's a step-up model in the works (see end of his post)...
Sony also has a NEX-VG10 demo video that I posted on the blog. Check it out.

Yes it would have been nice to see native 23.97p, 29.97p, 60p.
but i think this is at least a tacit acknowledgement that there is a market for this type of thing.

11 lux is what is on Sony's website. That is at f/3.5. They need to have some f/2.8 zoom lenses and maybe some fast primes.

I must have been sleeping under a rock to miss this one, I saw the rumors, but never saw this.

Sony Pro confirms 35mm sensor in numerous camcorders across the range. It will be before next year's NAB. So APS-C/Super35 for consumers and true 35mm for Pro. Bye Bye 3CCD rule! I'm sure wedding videographers will stick by you for years to come!
I am probably posting old news here that you all know about.

The specs I was reading so far were not very clear. The cam may very well record 25p via 50i, not unusual in Europe.
Besides that I assume that this cam is just another version of the NEX Series (ergonomics shifted towards video) which suffers from severe aliasing in video mode. If so, this is more toy than serious cam.

According to Alister Chapman (http://www.xdcam-user.com/?page_id=5), " It records 25P (Pal version) or 30P (US version) recoded in an interlace stream to give maximum compatibility"...
If Alister is right, the 50(60)i specification is just too "generalized". But if it is only interlaced indeed, that would be a show-stopper. Even if the "pro" version with XLR balanced mic input etc. indeed is planned.

I cannot find the option to edit my own message, so I'm posting another one...
Two important points on this camera that crossed my mind:
1. PLUS: as a nanoFlash user, I can see a great potential in using the NEX-VG10 HDMI output (again, provided the native format is progressive inside the 50/60i stream; otherwise it's a no no for me)
2. MINUS: I could live with all vital manual controls being selected by the thumb roller, located in a rather awkward position - but what really sucks is the lack of a proper zoom rocker.

Long time no see, Piotr! I agree about the zoom rocker. Certainly its a better option than the little toggles that are a bit too commonly-used these days.megabit wrote: 2. No zoom control at all except the rings on the lens? Hope there is lanc then!
