A second post here about the HXR-Z5U. I was hoping a few people could comment on the brands of tape that they have had good success with in the Z5U. I own a HC1 and it seems that that camera prefers Sony HDV tape. Though I've had some failures with that brand. Can you get away with Panasonic AY-DVM60ES, or AY-DVM63PQUS or should I stick with an HDV tape?
Thanks,
Bill

None of the above. I use only the Sony Premiums (the cheapest they make -- blue label). Available online for less than $2 each. There is no reason to waste money on "HDV" tape, and in fact the only mass recall for defective tape that Sony has ever had was with the HDV line.

Adam,
Thanks for your response. Indeed, I've spent extra money on the HDV tape thinking I'm saving myself from dropouts. Then I record a few shows to find the 1st 20 minutes of some of the tapes completely blank. Later I learn about the recall, on a $15 tape!! Aaarggh!!
I'll stick to the cheaper tape.
